Train services are being disrupted due to a person hit by a train between Reading and Basingstoke. Short notice cancellations can be expected.
Road Transport has now been sourced and will operate between Reading and Basingstoke in both directions.

William Huskisson MP was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

Regrettably, "person hit by train" is usually fatal ... but are we sure it was fatal in this case?

I know that line well, and there's several footpaths cross the line, as well as a road crossing. Hopefully it's not a fatality (though odds on it is)

Fair point, chaps. While the FGW live updates site referred to this incident as 'a person hit by a train', one of the local press travel updates used the word 'fatality' - although that travel update seemed to disappear later last night when the track was reopened.

I'll do some more digging ...  Undecided
