First Great Western - an Introduction to some issues
First Great Western operate almost all the train services in a wedge out from London's Paddington station to the west - all the way to Weymouth, Penzance, Swansea and Hereford .... and, yes, that includes Reading, Oxford, Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Plymouth, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Newport, Worcester and Cardiff to name but a few.
FGW haven't had the greatest of presses ... and here are some of the issues
An Adelante - their newest train, withdrawn in early 2008 and back in 2012
Services are often late, or don't stop where they need to
The timetable has been slashed - no trains available when thsi picture was taken
Remaining trains are often overcrowded and late
Add to this the very complex and often expensive fare system, difficulties in getting information, delays and cancellations, threatening notices concerning penalty fares when the ticket machine is inoperable and you'll see a list of some of the things that are th elot of the train user in FGW territory.
And First tell us they're transforming travel, but perhaps not in the way they should be doing
