Save the Train!

Dear Alison and Glenda,

In "The Railway Children", Bobbie waved her red flannel petticoat to alert the engine driver to problems ahead and saved the train. A great story, caring for the train, the staff and the passengers.

Alison and Glenda, please save our train services which have been placed in your care. Please provide us, your customers, with trains that run at times that we want to travel, which go where we want to go, and stop where people need to get on and off and which have sufficient capacity for everyone who wants to make the journey. And please provide them at a price we can afford. We do understand that you've had teething troubles, but we look forward a time when these simple aspirations are met with a consistent and reliable service. And we want to help you and work with you to meet them.

A carrier that provides the customer with the service that he/she wants, and treats its customers as trustworthy human beings rather than cattle, criminals, or simply as a nuisance can and will thrive, and we encourage you to take that route. You will have our full support - we'll be your ambassadors.

Jenny Agutter, the actress who actually played the part of Bobbie, has signed our recent petition along with over 1700 others, and helped us with publicity. "Still waving my red petticoat" she says.

Yours sincerely,

The users of your trains in the South West of England

This letter prepared by the "Save the Train" campaign - seeking an approriate train service on the Swindon to Westbury and Salisbury route (the "TransWilts") and other regional services in the South West of England.
