Title: Havant gateline - nearly always open Post by: Brucey on September 18, 2012, 13:51:02 My recent travels have resulted in a number of journeys starting and ending at Havant. Both daytime entrances are gated, with the up gateline being left open overnight and a side entrance opened on the down platform.
Talking to a member of staff there yesterday, apparently there are no gateline staff employed to work the Havant gateline, hence they are nearly always open. Cover for the gateline is provided by Revenue Protection Officers based at Portsmouth, who only work the barriers part-time Monday-Friday. Given that the barriers are now in use only at times when most travellers will have season tickets, I can't imagine how much revenue is being lost by people taking free rides. Especially considering that the Fratton to Havant corridor is believed to be a free ride by many of the local residents.
