Unless they thought they'd need that shortish extra time to serve?

You can sit at Frome and not interfere with the timetabled service as it arrives just after a Weymouth service has gone and there isn't another one for two hours.

Correct, it was two first class carriages sandwiched between two buffet cars with four standards making up the rest.
