I've used the public right of way past the station build a number of times over the years but hadn't realised there was so much left. Title: Re: Compton Station, Didcot, Newbury & Southampton line Post by: eightonedee on October 07, 2023, 23:11:00 In days gone by, before the vegetation made it impassible, the old track bed from Compton Station was a good route for a walk all the way to Churn and beyond. If I recall correctly, the old goods shed at Compton was not demolished for a long time (into the 1980s?). I think at some time the owner of the old station fenced the line off.
The picture showing a oilseed rape field in the article is taken from the railway bridge north of Churn Halt. It is clearly a few years old, as the track bed here is now quite overgrown with bushes and shrubs too.
