1  Sideshoots - associated subjects / Campaigns for new and improved services / Re: Campaign for Tavistock reopening on: November 04, 2009, 18:02:55
100% agree with the re-opening of the Tavistock line. When you think back 40 years or so Tavistock had both a GWR (Great Western Railway) station and a Southern railway connection. Since then it has substantially increased in size and traffic on the A386 into Plymouth has been very heavy. Come on DfT» (Department for Transport - about) and the Government do what you said in 1997 when you were elected and take traffic off the road and invest in our railways.
2  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Revision of HST's stopping at small stations on: November 27, 2008, 21:11:38
It must be borne in mind that the revision of HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units))'s stopping at 'small' stations' are not extra services for these stations but in the main are replacing previous DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) services. If the HST's did not stop at these stations the services would be lost. I am sure most of us would not like to see reductions in services anywhere on the line.
3  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Devon - Central, North and South / Re: Good And Bad News For Ivybridge From December 2008 on: May 05, 2008, 19:49:35
???I think there appears to be some selfishness from some members. Don't begrudge the fact that some HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units))'s will be stopping at Ivybridge because if they don't we will most likely lose services. It only adds on 2 or 3 minutes to a journey to London, in the scheme of things that's nothing. The argument should be for FGW (First Great Western) to provide more services.
4  All across the Great Western territory / Introductions and chat / Re: Lee Fletcher on: November 22, 2007, 22:57:44
I fully support Lee Fletcher in his efforts to improve train services and there is no reason to doubt his motives or berate his efforts. I speak from personal experience in that CANBER (Campaign Against the New Beeching Report) and Lee were of tremendous help and gave full support to the campaign to stop the cuts planned at Ivybridge station during the period where FGW (First Great Western) proposed to slash the services at Ivybridge from 24 per day to 6.
I am pleased to say that due to Lee's eforts and the Ivybridge Rail User's Group we now have 16 services per day (weekdays).
