1  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Seatfrog comes to GWR on: September 24, 2019, 18:10:15
Has anyone tried Seatfrog yet? I'm a season ticket holder and tempted to try it for a trip from Paddington.. but curious how much the seats end up going for. Is it effectively an upgrade for £10 if nobody bids against me and there is space on the train?

Interesting and all very helpful - thanks! I look forward to December then.. I might get a few minutes of my life back each day! Smiley

Let’s hope this is the 16:42 that was planned for May 2016!

I spy at the end of May there seems to be a new 16:37 service which takes significantly longer than any other day time train making the journey..1hr45 from Paddington to Stroud vs 1hr27 for the 17:42. Hmm. It gets you in 2 minutes earlier than the current situation changing at Swindon, and the National Rail journeyplanner still recommends 16:45 to Swansea and changing at Swindon. Not quite the exciting new service I was hoping for!
4  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Smartcards across the GWR network. on: November 09, 2018, 20:31:04

Is that the question? If it bugs you, all you need is that you can opt for an electronic one. If other people keep using paper ones, why would that bother you?

Fair enough. I wish my need to use a paper season ticket would go away. I would be DELIGHTED by the opportunity to have an electronic ticket.

The question is though....will paper season tickets finally disappear? Having to get it reprinted every couple of months is really irritating..especially since train staff always make out that it is my fault that the ticket has faded!
6  Journey by Journey / Swindon to Gloucester / Cheltenham / Re: Future of traffic between London/Swindon and Gloucester/Cheltenham on: August 06, 2018, 19:35:47
Magic ! When will the timetable emerge for that?
7  Journey by Journey / Swindon to Gloucester / Cheltenham / Re: Future of traffic between London/Swindon and Gloucester/Cheltenham on: August 06, 2018, 18:34:12
On this topic.. a couple of things that bugged me:

1) When will the infamous 1642 service from Paddington to Cheltenham Spa be introduced? (https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/452225/first-great-western-service-level-commitment-2-22032015.pdf)
2) When will journey times be reduced (as promised!) once the IET (Intercity Express Train - replacement for HSTs (manufactured by Hitachi in Kobe, Japan)) trains have been introduced? There has to be some benefit to sitting on those rock solid seats Smiley

8  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: GWR Performance Figures on: July 03, 2018, 21:57:20
Looking forward to the addition of the latest figures to these charts..those numbers aren't getting much better!
9  All across the Great Western territory / Smoke and Mirrors / Re: T minus twelve - Mark Hopwood writes on: May 04, 2018, 13:00:39
And I was surprised to get to Paddington station last night to find the vast majority of high speed services without train crew.......
10  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: GWR Performance Figures on: May 04, 2018, 12:56:20
Bear in mind that this period covers the snow events too

although some of those were taken as void days..meaning they don't make it into the performance stats, right?
11  All across the Great Western territory / Smoke and Mirrors / Re: Compensation Delays on: March 11, 2018, 16:55:18
Re: void day compensation - adding them to the end of the season ticket is one option, but they can also be taken as cash. So long as you can find someone who knows how to process them..which to date has proved almost impossible.

I opt for cash since I renew my annual season ticket on the last day of the year..adding even a day would push my subsequent ticket into the next year (raising the cost).
12  All across the Great Western territory / Smoke and Mirrors / Re: Compensation Delays on: March 10, 2018, 21:30:05
Confirmed that void days were declared on 1 and 2 March (except LTV (London [and] Thames Valley) on 2nd).

Shall we have a sweepstake to figure out how long it'll take to get a refund for these void days?
13  All across the Great Western territory / Smoke and Mirrors / Re: Compensation Delays on: March 03, 2018, 15:01:20
Yep agreed - this is an ongoing infuriating issue. Not looking forward to seeing how long it takes them to pay up for the void day(s) this week..when they get declared
14  All across the Great Western territory / Your rights and redress / Re: GWR’s compensation scheme is all delay and no repay on: January 20, 2018, 21:45:04
email Hopwood directly and cc it to as many newspapers/MPs (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context)/Local Councillors as possible, in my experience that tends to light a fire under their arses and provokes a very swift response.

I did eventually get my last one resolved via that method.. took 6 months.

Went back to the station today. They once again denied they could help. Have agreed to investigate and call me back at some point.. at least someone has finally taken some responsibility!
15  All across the Great Western territory / Your rights and redress / Re: GWR’s compensation scheme is all delay and no repay on: January 19, 2018, 22:38:10
So the compensation saga continues..

I renewed my HSS (High Speed Services) season ticket in December only to find the ticket office refused my 5% season ticket renewal discount because they couldn't find any record of my season ticket on their computer systems (apparently because I purchased it online).

They told me to write to the customer relations team. Customer relations managed to reply within 3 weeks (must be a record) but to tell me that they don't deal with such compensation claims. Stations do.

So from pillar to post.. I still have a zero% success rate in getting GWR (Great Western Railway) to pay out compensation without unbelievable pain.
