1  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Great Western Railway: on-board catering, buffets, Travelling Chef, Pullman - ongoing discussion on: April 13, 2025, 08:10:33
Yesterday I posted in the Night Riviera thread a review of the service on frequent flyer site Head For Points (which sometimes covers other modes of transport), today they've posted one of Pullman Dining on a journey from Plymouth to Paddington:

3  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Thames Valley infrastructure problems causing disruption elsewhere - 2025 on: March 09, 2025, 19:22:59
I’m on the 19:04 EL (Elizabeth Line - Transport for London line from Reading and Heathrow in the west through central tunnels across to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east.) train from TWY (Twyford station) (I’m going to Hayes) which left from P2 (which I was fortunate to aim for as according to RTT» (Real Time Trains - website) the previous one ran 13 minutes late and didn’t call there). This particular train is non-stopping Taplow and Burnham as indeed all EL trains are doing this evening with no advice that I’ve seen or heard so I don’t know what passengers to and from those stations are meant to do.

Also all the GWR (Great Western Railway) trains on the PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains)-DID (Didcot Parkway) route are shown on the screens at TWY as cancelled - from RTT it looks like they’re running but not stopping at TWY or MAI (Maidenhead station) as in the message posted above.

This is almost rubbing salt into an open wound, but if you have a spare 3 hours in the day you might like to watch the video and marvel at how the Norwegian railways cope with bad weather.

It gets particularly spicy about 1hr 40min. Just try to picture an IEP (Intercity Express Program / Project. This will offer more capacity on routes, save money, give a consistent and safe service and meet customer requirements. Intended to replace HSTs.) running in the same conditions.

From National Rail:

Disruption between London Paddington and Reading expected until 12:00

Route(s) affected
between London Paddington and Reading

Description
Due to the police dealing with an incident between London Paddington and Slough, all lines are currently closed. As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Looking at Open Train Times Maps it looks like the incident is at Ealing Broadway with trains currently backed up along the Up Main as far as Langley - however just checking again before I press 'Post', it would appear that trains are just starting to move again.

More pictures and videos from BusAndTrainUser at Twyford who is reporting that EL (Elizabeth Line - Transport for London line from Reading and Heathrow in the west through central tunnels across to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east.) trains are currently not stopping due to overcrowding at the station but GWR (Great Western Railway) ones continue to do so:

With the Henley Regatta this weekend there couldn't be a worse time for this:

Due to a tree blocking the railway between Twyford and Henley-On-Thames the line is blocked.
Impact:
Train services running to and from these stations may be delayed. Disruption is expected until 10:30 06/07.

Customer Advice:
We're sorry for the delay to your journey.
We will update this message with more information when we have it.

Overhead line problems at Ladbroke Grove too apparently.

Just looking at Open Train Times maps there's currently a queue of 6 trains on the Up Relief tailing back from Ladbroke Grove. Meanwhile 1K14 (13:05 PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains)-NBY» (Newbury - next trains)) appears to have been stationary there on the Down Main for about an hour.
12  Journey by Journey / London to Reading / Re: Twyford parking rules could change as Elizabeth Line route opens on: June 20, 2024, 12:29:29
Surely Twyford must now be a strong contender for another of those "flat pack" multi-storey car parks like the ones at Wokingham and Didcot?

ISTR ('I seem to recall/remember') that permission was sought from Wokingham Borough Council but refused.
