1  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Bristol Temple Meads - station, facilities, incidents and events (merged posts) on: April 22, 2025, 10:44:25
No problem, I was travelling at the time and couldn't see anyway to upload a picture from a mobile phone so the chap I was travelling with sorted me a link

I can see how to do it on my laptop now
2  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Bristol Temple Meads - station, facilities, incidents and events (merged posts) on: April 09, 2025, 10:20:30
Does this mean the works have been completed?
I have no idea of the targeted completion date

The place has given me flashbacks of New Street of old, such a dark and gloomy place
3  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Extreme Day Trips on: April 02, 2025, 10:01:29
You can never simply walk up & get on - even without luggage.

the initial barrier that you pass through by scanning your boarding pass on is set to refuse admittance at a point prior to departure - usually 30-40 mins. You still have to clear through security, even with zero luggage/carry ons.

True, but you can walk into the airport, straight through the security and assuming you checked in online already can walk up to the plane at the last moment that the gate closes

It is certainly do-able, I did very similar when flying to Newcastle, except had a laptop to go through the scanner, but again that added literally seconds to the day

I’d be interested to know what people find too much hassle with airports, if that’s the only reason deterring someone, maybe some of the other more seasoned airport users  could give some tips around reducing the hassle.

This doesn't really make sense, with a day trip you would not be taking any luggage, could pre check in, so literally walk up to the airport at the last moment and board the plane

I would love to do it, the idea of flying to somewhere like Rome for the day sounds great
I did join the Facebook group for extreme day trips from Bristol, but never got around to finding a date where I was free to do a trip
6  Journey by Journey / Cross Country services / Re: Taunton Station and headed north - not clever on: March 24, 2025, 10:47:49
I am guessing none of you have experienced Taunton station after the conclusion of a Somerset T20 fixture, the examples above sound like a quiet summers trip out
7  Journey by Journey / Chiltern Railways services / Re: Upcoming closure consultation - Bordesley Station on: March 14, 2025, 13:58:56
I could have sworn there were more than one service on a match day
When I have returned home starting here there have been a number of services available
8  Journey by Journey / London to Swindon and Bristol / Missing service on: February 25, 2025, 13:14:39
I am going to London (From WSM) twice in the coming weeks.
On Wednesday 5th March I am catching the 1123 service that starts at Weston, becomes the 1200 service from Temple Meads, completing the usual service every 30 minutes

Also going on the 12th March but oddly this service isn't running, it doesn't even start at BTM (Bristol Temple Meads (strictly, it should be BRI) but BTM is a commonly used alternative))
It then runs again from the 19th March

Does anyone know why it isn't running on the 12th?
Seems odd to be missing just that day without any obvious reason
9  Sideshoots - associated subjects / News, Help and Assistance / Re: Coffee Shop forum Server load - ongoing issues, being resolved by grahame on: February 21, 2025, 10:50:36
I've now updated the heading of this particular topic, simply to make it less historic date specific - and to record that grahame is continually dealing with these issues.

Dealing with these issues - again - this morning.   You may notice some slower responses or even no response or being turned away while I find out what's been going on overnight.

I've had the following message when viewing threads a couple of times this morning and the same thing a couple of days ago.

"A quick answer from our receptionist
The "Coffee Shop" is a popular and busy forum, and you have been calling for a lot of complex pages in a very short time. Are you real? If you are, and you keep getting this message, please get in touch with the admin team (address below)."

I guess it is known, but I still get taken to another page when I click the "like" tab, then have to press the back key to return to the forum

Oddly when I click "reply" which I tried to do here, I get this message

10  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Shortage of train crews on Great Western Railway - ongoing discussion on: February 20, 2025, 10:57:07
Out of interest how many staff are on an average service?

The reason I ask, I travelled from Paddington to Temple Meads last week on first class.
There was a hostesses for standard class, and another one for first class
Then there was a train Manager, but also another two staff checking tickets

I felt like I was on a plane for the number of staff
11  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Weekend First Upgrades on: February 10, 2025, 11:22:04
Anyone know the upgrade cost (for tomorrow), Paddington to Penzance?

Railforum suggests it might be £30, but unable to find any official fare.

Many thanks

Have you ever used "Seatfrog", I use it for all my trips from WSM to Paddington now, usually get the upgrade for £17 each
12  All across the Great Western territory / Media about railways, and other means of transport / Re: Electrification of Weston Super Mare loop? on: February 07, 2025, 14:38:23
Sadly our local paper often looks like it has been compiled by people with zero knowledge of anything, report after report is flawed and poorly written, sadly I am blocked from posting in the comments section for pointing out many errors in previous reports

This article is just another lot of nonsense

Even though money has been approved for new lifts etc, the feeling amongst staff at the station is "we'll believe it when we see it"
13  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: GWR Rewards fares - launching March 2025 on: February 04, 2025, 13:27:10
GWR (Great Western Railway) appear to be launching a rewards programme in March.

From what I understand, signing up will start you on Bronze tier and you progress up to Silver and Gold.

Bronze tier gets you 1 free on board beverage, 1 40% off a ticket voucher and 10% off on board food and drink.
Silver (50 points) goes up to 15% off on board food/drink; Gold (120 points) 20% off.  Silver and Gold earn you free tickers, lounge access and Pullman dining offer.

You will earn points by booking via GWR.com & GWR app.  10 points for spending £30-69.99 per day and 20 points for >£70.
PAYG (Pay as you go) points are earned depending on your weekly capped spend.
Points reset on the anniversary of your sign up.

Sounds interesting, sadly too late for me having just spent over £200 on upcoming trips.
Out of interest what is your source for this story as there doesn't appear to be anything publicly shared about it
14  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Bristol Temple Meads - station, facilities, incidents and events (merged posts) on: February 04, 2025, 13:17:02
Thanks for posting that update, johnneyw.   Wink

That is indeed a fairly large project of restoration / rebuilding / improvement work.

Out of interest when are the works due to be finished?
The station is so depressing with boards everywhere, it reminds me of New Street

I wasn't able to quote or reply to anything yesterday, but this seems to be resolved now
