1  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Thames Valley infrastructure problems causing disruption elsewhere - 2025 on: June 11, 2025, 08:51:59
Another bridge strike at Burnham this morning. Trains being cautioned over the affected area.

There was a signal failure yesterday between Reading and Paddington. Journeycheck then reported further delays due to trespassers on the line. Was there an unexpected detraining somewhere?
3  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Shortage of train crews on Great Western Railway - ongoing discussion on: May 11, 2025, 17:41:47
Might not be possible due to driver hours and route knowledge. I do wonder how many passengers this would impact and whether a taxi might be a better option
4  All across the Great Western territory / Fare's Fair / Re: Taplow-Hassocks on: May 01, 2025, 16:12:15
As a former resident of Hassocks, this thread intrigued me. (I used to commute on one of the services with a 4BIG - the slice of hot toast puts GWR (Great Western Railway) catering today to shame)

I've not checked, but there might be some opportunities around Southern Advances and possibly some PAYG (Pay as you go) tapping in/out somewhere.

There were some historic fare anomalies that I remember using in my youth around ticket validity to Lewes and some other local stations too but I suspect the Routing Guide will have put paid to those.
5  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / May Timetable Change on: May 01, 2025, 09:11:30
I've searched the forums but couldn't see any topics on this.

Does anyone know where I can find a summary of the changes to the GWR (Great Western Railway) timetable that come in on 18th May?

Except passengers struggled to go that way either. Passenger taken ill (which was unfortunate) meant that there were no trains to Waterloo from 0609 until 0728. I was lucky yesterday - didn't need to be in London until later so was able to get one of the first fasts from Reading at about 0835 - Reading station was pretty much deserted.

Journey check was reporting that some of the Didcot stoppers had been cancelled between Didcot and Reading due to a track inspection.

Looks like the mains are closed in both directions between Reading and Didcot. Traksy is currently showing 7 down services queueing from Morton Cutting.

Not a good start to the Christmas getaway.
8  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Shortage of train crews on Great Western Railway - ongoing discussion on: November 10, 2024, 15:29:14
Not all the delay repay claims are related to staff shortages. Infrastructure failures, especially those impacting peak services, are likely to result in a significant percentage of those claims, not least of which because regular travellers will be used to claiming.
9  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Reliability of station lifts and escalators on: August 09, 2024, 12:51:14
To be fair, after heavy rain, the subway at Didcot is often out of action too, so no need for any lifts to be working.
10  Journey by Journey / London to Didcot, Oxford and Banbury / Re: Oxford Station - improvements, incidents and events (merged topic) on: August 08, 2024, 15:10:33
Oxford Mail https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/24504486.oxford-politician-said-botley-road-shut-end-2025/ now reporting that a local councillor has stated that the Botley Road is unlikely to be open until the end of 2025. No official announcement from Network Rail, but I do feel sorry for the residents of Oxford.
11  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Thames Valley infrastructure problems causing disruption elsewhere - 2024 on: July 10, 2024, 07:05:28
The defect is clearly worse because the up main is now closed with the usual contingency plans in place (Didcot and Newbury services terminating/starting from Reading).
12  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Thames Valley infrastructure problems causing disruption elsewhere - 2024 on: June 27, 2024, 08:00:06
This morning’s joy. A trespass incident at West Ealing has resulted in a complete block to services in/out of Paddington. Journeycheck expecting disruption until 0900.
13  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Thames Valley infrastructure problems causing disruption elsewhere - 2024 on: June 24, 2024, 22:11:33
Services looked like they had recovered by about 2030 (the time, not the year). But don't worry, I'm sure there will be another infrastructure issue along soon, especially as temperatures will be rising over the next few days.
14  All across the Great Western territory / Your rights and redress / Re: Passenger rights - last train cancelled on: June 13, 2024, 08:26:08
Final update.

After a "Letter Before Action", GWR (Great Western Railway) have finally agreed to compensate the taxi expense. Contrary to their Complaints Handling policy, it's still taking effort to get Delay Repay for this journey.

In summary, GWR do not appear to have an effective process for dealing with stranded passengers when they cancel services, nor do they seem to have a mechanism that is customer friendly to recover costs when they breach their contract.

@mods can you move this thread to the "Your rights and redress" section of the forum? Thanks

I'm going to correct what I said in my last post.

Darwin sites are showing the service as cancelled, but only from Gloucester (which is correct).

There's probably a training issue in GWR (Great Western Railway) Customer Services where trains are cancelled for part of their journey.
