An update from last night's FoSBR» meeting ... would love someone with more detail to confirm this as it's my reading as someone with limited knowledge on the topic. E&OE1. The tram trains idea being looked at is a report to be made on quite a short timescale, and will not effect the critical path / timing (unless of course its results are a suprise!) 2. There is an issue with conservation and law changes in the gorge - case law from a Northern Ireland fresh water mussel thing under European law which, however, was largely written by the UK▸ team in Europe, and stays. Something about "no you can't build / improve there - look at alternatives" then "oh, isn't there an alternative, then we can give you special permission provided you put mitigation in place". Not been able to find anything on Google - closets is http://jncc.defra.gov.uk/page-13793. Development consent order needed as it's more that 1 km of "new" track and that's a public enquiry and massive volumes of drawings. The fact that the railway was never officially closed and is still there under the weeds doesn't remove the need for the enquiry - it's still regarded as 'new' because (?) it hasn't been tested under current legislation 4. "Going ahead" with 2023 as the current planned date for the first passenger services, even though there's a funding gap that they're looking to fill somehow in the next 18 months. This is just ridiculous!!!, If it's there, it should be just relaid and station provided, should only need planning permission from BCC» and that's it, would of thought, sounds somebody putting obstacles in the way to delay opening it.

I love the bunk beds (top, middle) - is this the new Melksham sleeper?
Chance would be a fine thing. Melksham service still comes to an end silly-early in the evening. Busyness (and it was from Bath to Bradford on Avon, where I got off) was noticeable - even some people using middle seats; used private transport for the five miles from B-o-A home and as a result was home well over an hour earlier than I would have been on the late bus. Serious need to extend services to start earlier / run later in Wiltshire - topic raised in the SWLEP rail strategy meeting / report last week so that need to extend may become "official policy" ... which doesn't actually get us the service, but at least helps unlock a door! Edit to addI love the bunk beds (top, middle) - is this the new Melksham sleeper?
I’m sure grahame would have liked it to be running via Melksham last night Tooooo true! Need for late train is bubbling to the top of the "must do" list! This is why I said on another thread, that we need a Cheltenham to Westbury service via Stroud now and needs to be from May, I hope GWR▸ have taken my advice and read this forum. Then the Cheltenham to London hourly added as well. This would give Melksham a decent hourly service up until 23:00 at nights.

I just got off an IET▸ at Reading and switched to an HST▸
Make the most of the HSTs while you can, they won't be around for much longer! There are now more IETs than HSTs in service now. When the penultimate Cotswold train on a Friday night becomes an IET then that'll be a very dark day. Well actually it'll be a very bright day indeed because of the insanely bright lighting on the IET in 1st. I think you know what I mean though. Sadly the 19:22 is now an IET with no functioning reservations and the usual insanely bright lighting which apparently cannot be turned down. Is there not a switch somewhere, There is on the HST'S. The last Train Manager I spoke to said that the lighting wasn't alterable. It may just have been unalterable by GWR▸ staff but possible if you're Hitachi. I might have a look through the DaFT» specifications and see if it was a requirement or not. When I had to travel on a HST, the lighting was usually already dimmed. I.E. Some lights off. Noticing the switch was in dim position, putting it to bright, put them all on.

Maybe that's what I heard then. I am sad, would of been nice, other countries have it, why not us, Although we did have the GWML▸ done. Have to be grateful for that.
To be controversial. Because we have politicians who want to ensure that any investment on transport goes to London (where they all live). Us in the provinces (who cannot afford a luxury 4x4) can walk! They also have zero understanding of how investment works that is why they have absolutely no idea what industry needs to make our country prosperous. But we always here that the whole country will prosper, what a joke!. Is,nt it odd that all of the mainline has new signalling and yet Gloucester, Westbury through to Plymouth they just seem to botch it up.

The only talk I have heard about electrification in the South West is a thought wires could be strung up over the Devon banks but I don’t think that has got much further than the back of the proverbial envelope.

Evening all,
In what may be promising signs I went to Bristol Temple Meads earlier today (18th January) for the 1515 BRI» -SVB train and noticed a 4-car HST▸ set sitting in Platform 4. Lead loco was 43016 with the rear loco being 43194. Carriages had electric doors on them with power points fitted throughout of the same type as those found on the 166s (ie. with USB sockets as well as plugs). Working code was 3Z25 so presumably a test run.
4-car Bristol to Taunton HSTs come May anyone? Photos attached.

They look quite sexy!!. These would be good on the Oxford to Worcester line, and maybe Cardiff to Portsmouth, better than buying new trains I suppose.i As TG says, Plymouth - Penzance = they ours!!! Keep your mitts off!! I thought of the Cardiff to Portsmouth because I thought they would not be needed in Plymouth, as I thought they were going to electrify the route from Bristol to Penzance, Eventually. It has been talked about for years.

I do apologise if my joke wasn’t written clearly, I never mean to cause offence to anyone on here and I seem to have no issue with anyone here. I do not feel it is needed for one and another to not get along - at the end of the day we are here to add our opinions and every now and again have a joke Regards, Charlie Sorry Charlie, I feel bad as we seem to have lost sandt, did not mean this to happen and got rid of that awful post. He is good, he is better than any of our government. Again sandt I appoligise for the silly posts. And we welcome you back!!!.
