1  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: 2022 - TransWilts cancellations and amendments log on: December 15, 2022, 18:22:30
The line got a shoutout on national radio (Talksport) "no services between Chippenham and Trowbridge due to no rolling stock"  Smiley
2  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: 2022 - TransWilts cancellations and amendments log on: May 12, 2022, 21:32:48
First trip to the office for 26 months today, took the 9am from Chippenham to Trowbridge, planned to get the 12:23 back but guess what, cancelled, somethings never change! So, off to Bath Spa and the Paddington service to Chippenham.
3  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: 2020 - TransWilts cancellation and amendment log on: February 25, 2020, 21:25:52
Yeah sad... my 16:31 was cancelled so took the 16:47 to Gloucester, obviously getting off at Bath. Not sure where that train comes from, maybe Weymouth? The fatality occured in the Swindon area we were told by the Bath announcer and it was causing delays/cancellations on the mainline. In the end got home about an hour late.

Ah okay, thanks... makes sense! It's been FREE this week, because the train hasn't arrived  Wink

I get the train to Trowbridge from Chippenham before 9:00am and this is always off peak. I presume all TranWilts journeys are off peak regardless of time? Curiously when using the self service machine there is an on peak option which is double the price! It's not very clear. The ticket barriers won't let me in though but the GWR (Great Western Railway) staff always let me through Smiley

The 08:59 from Chippenham to Trowbridge has been cancelled two days in a row, yesterday because of a broken down train and today due to a tree. I'm hoping to get into the office tomorrow, fingers crossed!

Looks like it was an unstable embankment at the bridge in Lowden Hill, Chippenham.

Sorry I've been posting in the wrong place, didn't realise new year meant new log!  Cheesy

Looks like it's fixed quicker than they expected ... [[ following up on a new(!) thread for 2020 at http://gwr.passenger.chat/22685 ... ]]

Yeah, well the 11:20 was cancelled and that's the one I intended to get. My experience tells me this always knocks on and to expect the classic 'shortage of train crew' cancellations later in the day. I'm staying at home. Looking at Chippenham station on Real Train Times and it appears the only train cancelled was the Swindon to Westbury service, what a surprise.
10  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: 2019 - TransWilts cancellation and amendments log on: January 07, 2020, 11:30:09
No trains from Chippenham today due to a damaged bridge between Chippenham and Bath. Checking online the 11:20 Westbury service looked like it had survived however on arrival at the station it appears to have been cancelled. I guess no ones fault. I wonder how long (days) this will continue for.

EDIT: 11:20 is cancelled but other trains appear to be running and National Rail Enquires website state repairs are completed. Really bad communication from GWR (Great Western Railway). Luckily this time it was my outward journey so I'm able to walk home and work, I'm probably best out of it, seems like further delays are possible.
11  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: 2019 - TransWilts cancellation and amendments log on: December 23, 2019, 18:59:22
I guess (theoretically) from a GWR (Great Western Railway) perspective it makes sense to take out services on a branch line like the Transwilts and stick in a bus replacement rather than canning mainline services which may be more frequent but more prone to severe overcrowding on long journeys (especially at this time of year AND when the service is being reduced due to staff shortages)?

Yeah, I can confirm the Portsmouth to Cardiff train is very overcrowded between Trowbridge and Bath at rush hour... the nearest I've ever got to a seat was sitting in the luggage rack! The Transwilts service is never close to overcrowded.
12  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: 2019 - TransWilts cancellation and amendments log on: December 23, 2019, 15:42:46
I will do... yeah that's right, 2 hours! I have to go into the office a few times next week so we'll see how that goes, my guess is not well. I'm sure in the first full week of January everything will miraculously return to normal. The other thing is if they absolutely have to cancel a train why not the one in the middle of the afternoon and leave the rush hour train alone? That would make more sense. They seem to be a little out of touch with the real world, or simply don't care!
13  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: 2019 - TransWilts cancellation and amendments log on: December 23, 2019, 13:06:24
It seems to be in the holiday season, the last bad run of weekday cancellations was in the summer holiday season and now Christmas. They apparently need someone better in charge of the rotas! I'm glad I'm working from home today.
14  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: 2019 - TransWilts cancellation and amendments log on: December 20, 2019, 09:35:54
Well normally if the 16:31 is cancelled in advance I take the Cardiff Central train 15 mins earlier to Bath and come back to Chippenham which normally gets me home at 17:00. Not so bad! This time it wasn't an option because it was cancelled at such short notice, not to mention the Cardiff train was also cancelled. I wonder if this "congestion" is due to the new timetable, maybe it doesn't work.
15  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: 2019 - TransWilts cancellation and amendments log on: December 19, 2019, 21:00:02
Hi, yeah I was due to catch the 16:31 from Trowbridge to Chippenham. When I got to the station I saw the train before to Cardiff Central had been cancelled but my train was still on time. With 5 mins to go it became delayed by 2 mins, and then cancelled, minutes before it was due to arrive, amazing! So standard procedure in this situation is to get to Chippenham via Bath, the next train to Bath was 16:54 I think to Bristol Temple Meads, this train ended up being delayed by 50 minutes, I eventually caught the 17:17 to Bath (Cardiff Central service) which due to a signal issue crawled to Bradford on Avon before arriving at Bath around 30 mins late. It was very busy already before a large group of girl guides got on! I was next to three train guards who were all late for their trains and frantically calling their HQ (HeadQuarters) for updates. The London Paddington Service to Chippenham was on time! I arrived home 2 hours later than usual. Not really sure what the issue was but the announcements kept stating congestion or signal failure. The @GWRhelp twitter told me that my train crew had been diverted to another service.
