1  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Burning smell pulling into Reading on: June 18, 2009, 13:16:53
Quite often on my journey from Bristol to Paddington, the carriage will fill with an acrid burning smell just outside of Reading. Sometimes, it happens just outside of Paddington.

This happens on maybe 1-in-5 journeys. Does anyone know what this smell is?
2  Journey by Journey / London to Swindon and Bristol / Re: Will I get a seat from Bristol Parkway in the morning? on: March 03, 2009, 12:52:51
Thanks to you both. I'll be driving to the station, and a parking season ticket is much cheaper at BPW» (Bristol Parkway - next trains) than BRI» (Bristol Temple Meads - next trains).
Good to know I should get a seat mostly.

SuperTM - I didn't realise that tickets are valid to both stations. That's a great help, so thanks for that.
3  Journey by Journey / London to Swindon and Bristol / Will I get a seat from Bristol Parkway in the morning? on: March 03, 2009, 11:16:57
Hi all, hoping somebody can help me.

I'm going to start commuting from Bristol to Paddington soon, 4 days a week.

I can get a season ticket from either Bristol Temple Meads or Bristol Parkway.

I can either get:
  • The 7.30am from BTM (Bristol Temple Meads (strictly, it should be BRI) but BTM is a commonly used alternative)), which arrives at 9.15am.
  • The 7.32am from BPW» (Bristol Parkway - next trains), which arrives at 9.06am.
I'd rather travel from BPW, but my question is... am I likely to get a seat at that time? I know that if I travel from BTM I will probably get a seat.

Thanks all in advance,

Best

Ian

Quick update for anybody interested - I checked with the staff at Bristol Temple Meads this morning and I was told that season ticket holders can reserve seats for free.

Thanks for your replies.

I've had some conflicting information from FGW (First Great Western) on this. One person in the call centre said it was no problem - another said you have to pay ^5 for each reservation.

I'm going to ask at the ticket desk.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting a season ticket from Bristol to London to commute in every day.
I only really want to do this if I can be sure of a seat every day.

Does anyone know if it's possible to reserve a seat in advance if you have a monthly season ticket?

Thanks in advance,

Ian
