I am too old and fat to cycle, and don't really trust any vehicle with only two wheels. It looks inherently unstable, and when I tried cycling I found the machine to be as unstable as it looked.
Three wheels is the minimum for stability, and four looks safer.
Here is the Broadgage-cycle. One's butler propels the machine while one sits at the rear in a comfortable chair with a rug over one's knees. Please note the small wicker basket in front of one's knees, ideal for holding a bottle of port.  Cheesy

Not quite Mayor Tim Bowles in his finest lycra riding in the trailer chair but in disguise, give away, the grin still that of a Cheshire Cat !!!!

It would have to be a quadri-cycle: one wheel each for South Glos, BANES, Bristol and North Somerset.  Grin

N Somerset is not officially a constituent of WRECA so tricycle it is but to be pedantic a 4-wheeled cycle is a quadcycle.

But I bet on one thing,  we won't see WRECA Mayor Mr. Bowles standing in front of a camera lens grinning like a Cheshire cat in his finest lycra cycling gear donning his cyclists helmet being propped up by his 3-wheeled tri-cycle !!!!
6  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: General Stations - what and why on: August 20, 2020, 10:53:06
Did Weston Super Mare have a General suffix when Locking Road was open?

(I can't remember for certain but there is a quiet bell ringing in my head)

On the other hand, I seem to remember from history books that prior to Nationalisation Bridgwater had two stations simply called Bridgwater

Yes, Weston did have a General station and the S&D (Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway) Bridgwater Station was named Bridgwater North but I don't know if this was the case prior to nationalisation.

Only just twigged when editing this second pic that '54' in first pic is obviously signal related. I now think '54' is a repeater for station staff/conductor.

Same location:

Plymouth but never seen a signal like that a single searchlight lens with a shunt / calling on aspect.

First train trip since my birthday on March 14th. I was living in a very different country back then.

No idea what the number signifies. It's 12 too many to be the answer to life, the universe and everything. And 10 too few to reference a Beatles song.

Where be?

No idea where it be but looks like a signal repeater for signal operated by lever 54 in the signal box. When the lever to clear the signal is pulled the word ' OFF ' illuminates to let the train driver signal 54 is clear to proceed when the driver cannot see signal 54. Another form of this is a round array of white LEDs which look like a road side speed delimiter sign of which there is one on the down platform at Bath. If there is a black horizontal line next signal is other than a green. In brief an aid where a signal has a sighting problem.

I was at one time entitled to free fishing at Biterwell Lake being a Westerleigh Parish Resident but lost the privaledge at one of boundary reviews since I moved here.
10  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Metrowest Status on: August 11, 2020, 12:58:45
My previous post applies to the Portishead reopening and not the Metrowest project itself which was conceived and has done nothing but strangle the locals in their efforts to reopen the Portishead line.
11  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Metrowest Status on: August 11, 2020, 12:50:21
I thought this project was virtually 'shovel ready', but no not quite. I personally became involved in this project in 1982 when I prepared a briefing paper for a friend who had been elected to Avon in the 1981 election and was on the Highways and Transport Committee of said Council. How many back to square ones have been achieved in the intervening 38 years I have lost count of.

One day when time permits I will try and recall the detail of my late friends briefing paper that I prepared for him and post on this forum.

BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) radio 4 news summary at 0645 this am reporting Cambridges newly opened cycle friendly roundabout has been closed due to a non fatal accident involving a cyclist. Not so cycle friendly ehh !!!!
13  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Porkway Partway on: August 10, 2020, 12:58:42

But the article claims Filton Abbey Wood was the last station opened in the city when it is in fact in South Gloucestershire.

Report in todays Bristles local daily of another delay to this project but confirms that the project is now fully funded. Yes fully funded at todays costs but how about the inflation that will occur between yesterdays projected completion date and the now newly delayed completion date together with the revelation that design work for the project has not been started yet. Let me put another damper on this project, do they know if they own the land on which the platform will be sited.    😗
15  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Porkway Partway on: August 06, 2020, 15:05:12
I thought the PP station was already fully funded even before the recent announcement of funding or is it a blinder to mask the inflation since the last funding package was announced. How much of the present funding package will WECA» (West of England Combined Authority - about)/Mayor Bowles actually sign cheques for since the project has already been through the GRIP (Guide to Railway Investment Projects - Network Rail's process for project management of schemes through development and implementation) process. Mayor Bowles has to me an irritating habit of being foted at the completion of projects many of which were conceived before WECA existed.

In today's Bristles local daily there is an article on the PP Station which cites MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) Darren Jones commenting on the very subject of the funding being re-cycling of old funding as new money, this saga goes on, why does it take so long for anything to get done in Bristol where a public body is involved ?
