Quote
14:53 London Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street due 17:04 will no longer call at Hanborough, Charlbury, Kingham, Moreton-In-Marsh, Honeybourne, Pershore and Worcestershire Parkway Hl.
This is due to a speed restriction because of high track temperatures

2  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / Re: North Cotswold line delays and cancellations - 2025 on: April 28, 2025, 13:47:03
A few from the last couple of days:

Fri 25 April

1453 Paddington to Worcester Foregate Street cancelled between London Paddington and Slough due to a points failure (IB) and  cancelled between Oxford and Worcester Foregate Street due to unknown cause (ZW)

1726 Worcester Foregate Street to Paddington cancelled between Worcester Foregate Street and Oxford due to unknown cause (ZW) and was cancelled between Reading and London Paddington due to an issue with the train crew (TG)

Sun 27 April

0844 Paddington to Great Malvern cancelled between London Paddington and Worcester Shrub Hill due to an issue with the train crew (TH)

0858 Great Malvern to London Paddington was cancelled due to the train operator's request (TB)

1312 Worcester Foregate Street to London Paddington was cancelled due to an issue with the train crew (TH)
3  Journey by Journey / London to the Cotswolds / North Cotswold line - driver route knowledge on: April 28, 2025, 12:44:10
Going back to route knowledge in 2021 60+ Bristol drivers used to sign Newport Hereford Oxford and Didcot as well as Worcester to Cheltenham. From next month that will be zero.

<snip>

Might it be worth having this in a separate thread? Whilst the annual delays and cancellation thread is a useful historical record, there is sometimes the risk that the issues behind particular delays (e.g. regular flooding in a particular area, the issues with the bridge at Yarnton last year) simply get buried when, perhaps, they deserve a little more air.

Cancellations to services between Reading and London Paddington
Due to a points failure between Reading and London Paddington trains have to run at reduced speed on some lines.

Train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled or delayed by up to 40 minutes. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Customer Advice
Due to a points failure at Slough West the line between Reading to London Paddington will be heavily delayed.
There is also a points failure at Maidenhead East causing delays.

Alterations to services between London Paddington and Reading

Due to urgent repairs to the track between London Paddington and Reading fewer trains are able to run on the line towards Reading bound high speed.

Train services running to and from these stations may be delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 12:00 19/03.

The "disruption is expected until..." time has been gradually extended throughout the day - currently expected until 16:00 at present.

05:23 Hereford to London Paddington due 08:23
Facilities on the 05:23 Hereford to London Paddington due 08:23.
Will be formed of 5 coaches instead of 9. Service full and standing from Charlbury.

This is becoming quite a regular occurrence recently. This service was also held Charlbury for 18 minutes due to the late running 06:50 Paddington to Great Malvern service. It departed Hanborough at roughly the time the following 06:43 Worcester Shrub Hill to Paddington train was supposed to arrive, leaving a very full platform of passengers who decided to wait for that train (or, quite possibly, simply couldn't board the crush loaded HFD» (Hereford - next trains):PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains) short-form).

16:58 London Paddington to Great Malvern due 19:25 has been cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train crew

with the following 17:34 London Paddington to Hereford service running 16 minutes late and a five car short formation. Not surprisingly the GWR (Great Western Railway) app is showing no unoccupied seats.

19:53 London Paddington to Hereford due 22:57 will no longer call at Hanborough, Kingham, Moreton-In-Marsh, Honeybourne, Pershore and Worcestershire Parkway Hl.
It has been delayed at London Paddington and is now 28 minutes late.
This is due to this train being late from the depot

I wonder what the logic was for retaining the Charlbury and Evesham stops whilst missing out some more used intermediate stations between Oxford and Worcester.

I am not yet convinced that Open Access operators are beneficial...

There's an article in The Times today (behind paywall) headed "Fresh rail row as Labour signals crackdown on private services" beginning "In a letter to the rail regulator, the transport secretary has warned that open-access providers pose competition to other, soon-to-be-nationalised operators..." which suggests the government is thinking the same thing.

Sunday January 5

After a few good days...

Quote
14:46 London Paddington to Great Malvern due 17:15 will be cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.
Last Updated:05/01/2025 04:58

And the preceding service:

Quote
13:46 London Paddington to Great Malvern due 16:16 will be started from Worcester Shrub Hill.
It will no longer call at London Paddington, Reading, Didcot Parkway, Oxford, Hanborough, Charlbury, Kingham, Moreton-In-Marsh, Honeybourne, Evesham, Pershore and Worcestershire Parkway Hl.
This is due to a fault with the signalling system.

And after those two cancellations as far as services from London/Oxford to the Cotswolds are concerned:

Quote
Facilities on the 15:46 London Paddington to Great Malvern due 18:15.
Will be formed of 5 coaches instead of 9. There are no reservations on this service.
