News: the Great Western Coffee Shop ... keeping you up to date with travel around the South West
I recently travelled on the 10:48 Penzance to Paddington in the Pullman Restaurant, which was rather quiet. But is there any chance of a standard class passenger getting a seat on the 18:03 Paddington to Penzance, or would it be heavely booked by 1st class passengers.
If Cheltenham Spa had an hourly service to London, (direct) it could call at all stations in the Stroud valley including Gloucester, but making up time by running non stop Swindon-London or non stop Swindon-Reading rather than non stop Swindon-Cheltenham Spa as it would miss all the Stroud and Gloucester commuters. plus Swindon-Gloucester isn't fit for 90mph+ running.I think
I would think an hourly service from Cheltenham Spa to London Paddington would be much more convenient, as Cheltenham Spa is a main destination and it would mean that you wouldn't have to change at swindon and get a 2 carrige DMU▸ (Diesel Multiple Unit) for nearly half the full journey. It also means that the present DMUs could provide a better service on other lines, like the Avocet▸ (Branch line from Exeter to Exmouth) Line! Cheltenham could also do with a Travelling Chef service.
I would prefer if GC» (Great Central Railway - link to heritage line) had a class 67 hauled servive or something like that! Rather than 5 car 180s. At least they have managed to keep their HSTs▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)).
I may be travelling from London to Edinburgh with East Coast, but I don't know whether I should travel on a HST▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) or a 225. What would you recommend?
I thought Truro would be a good stop as it serves a main city, but I am surprised to hear that it has a non-stop run from Exeter to Reading. Surely people from the Kennet valley( Newbury, Kintbury etc.)would use the service.
Some people are saying that this year's 'Atlantic Coastline Express' from London Paddington to Newquay will call only at: Par, Plymouth, Newton Abbot, Exeter St. Davids and London Paddington. Is this true?
The food FGW▸ (First Great Western) has is excellent compared to some other operators like XC▸ (Cross Country Trains (franchise)) with trolleys going all the way from Penzance-Aberdeen. I would love to hear other people's views on Fgw food, and thank you for a warm welcome to the Coffe Shop!
From what I know, most HST▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) services only go above 100 mph somwhere between Swindon and Paddington. If I am right!
What is the top speed experinenced on a HST▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) from Cheltenham Spa to London Paddington and where would you experience it?
