1  Journey by Journey / Heart of Wessex / Re: Obstruction at Yeovil 18/10/2011 on: October 18, 2011, 12:12:06
This was caused by power cables across the line near Bruton.
The 07.24 off Trowbridge is the 05.33 Weymouth - Bristol Parkway, which was terminated at Castle Cary.

Isn't it slab track in the tunnel?
No, just normal concrete sleepers

Are the two FGW (First Great Western) units stabled at the platforms at Weymouth overnight or are they moved to Jersey sidings?
They are stabled in platform overnight
5  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: Police appeal over railway line death at Warminster (Wiltshire Times 28/09/2010) on: September 28, 2010, 17:48:38
Due to this incident trains between Salisbury & Westbury were diverted via Yeovil Junction.

Should it turn out - in the case of any road / rail collision - that someone was criminally negligent, then - yes - the full weight of the law should be thrown at them.  But there isn't always a negligent road driver - I'm sure regulars here will recall at least one incident in the last couple of years where causes turned out to be very different.   I also note that there's a contradiction (perhaps just a technical one) even in the reports so far - it's even unclear to me if the train ran into the road vehicle, or the road vehicle ran into the train.

It would appear that the train ran into the road vehicle due to the damage to the front cab of the train.
7  Journey by Journey / Portsmouth to Cardiff / Re: New Turbostars for FGW? on: July 21, 2010, 16:44:53

unlikely in my opinion, the current west sets will be around for some time yet but with some additions from LM (London Midland - recent franchise) and LO.understand one of them is coming in next few weeks 150124 i heard anyone confirm???
also expect the HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) fleet to get another refresh as recent refresh was designed to get them through til 2013.

150125 entered service with FGW (First Great Western) at beginning of this week
8  Journey by Journey / TransWilts line / Re: Man hit by train near Warminster - 14 July 2010 on: July 21, 2010, 16:27:44
like everyone has said there is no way i can see a 158/159 doing 120mph tops it would be doing 90/95 mph
Train would probably have been travelling between 65 & 75mph. Linespeed at Sherrington is 75 with a 65 restriction just after crossing

This guard is either ill-informed or more likely is one of an increasing number of individuals who are in a position of authority who abuse that power to intimidate members of the public. Sadly incidents like this gives the railway a bad name in the eyes of the public.
