And the Brighton train fails to make Brighton again! Is the major load on this train to / from Brighton, or is it dropping off all the way along the coast with just a handful left by the time it gets to Brighton?   What about the 16:59 back from Brighton to Bristol - does it start busy, or pick up much of its business along the way?

Reported cancelled yesterday(?) due to electrical failure. CIS^▸ (Customer Information System) announcement at Filton.

The westbound out of Brighton is at the centre of the evening peak, and in the Sussex RUS^▸ (Route Utilisation Strategy) of a couple of years ago they were definitely recommending that  it needed strengthening from 2 to 4 cars. So on the basis that 'what goes up must come down', they are also by default recommending that the eastbound should be four car, whether it is needed or not. 

My two pennorth (that I have already sent in to DfT^» (Department for Transport - about)) is that it shouldn't be part of FGW^▸ (First Great Western)'s remit to deal with perceived overcrowding in the Brighton area, and if there is a capacity issue it ought to be replaced by a decent sized EMU^▸ (Electric Multiple Unit), operated by SN.

Man in RUH after being hit by train near Bath

A man was being treated for head injuries today after being hit by a train near Bath.

The man was struck by the First Great Western service at around 12.50pm at a level crossing at Claverton.

The incident disrupted rail services around Bath, with delays of up to an hour between the city and Westbury.

A crew from Great Western Ambulance took the man to the Royal United Hospital, and initial indications were that his injuries were not life-threatening, with the train having already slowed down.

Paramedics also checked over the train driver.

Services have now returned to normal.
