From the Manchester Evening News:

Arriva Trains Wales train

A train worker died while working onboard a Manchester-bound service.

David Humphreys, from Ellesmere in Cheshire, died while working as a trolley steward on the Arriva Trains Wales service from Milford Haven in South Wales to Manchester Piccadilly.

It is thought that Mr Humphreys was found by the train conductor.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said Ambulance crews were called to Crewe station just before lunchtime on Tuesday.

The man's family had been informed, but the cause of death is not yet known.

Tributes have been left on social networking sites, with one colleague writing: "Such sad news on the railway today. Dave you had a heart of gold and didn't have a bad bone in your body. You will be missed by all."

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
