He seemed to brake fairly sharply as if he hadn't planned to stop for a "chat".  I suspect he saw someone up near the camera and stopped to challenge them.  Even if I've got it wrong, that could be his defence when he gets his "please explain".

Just a bit of fun I suspect. Seeing someone near the camera wouldn't be a reason to stop. It's not on railway land.

Does anyone know if the reason for that stop was a signal check, or did he stop specifically just to gurn at the camera? If the latter, I suspect a meeting with his manager, without tea & biscuits, is on the cards for him...!

Or his manager at DB» (Deutsche Bahn - German State Railway - about) Schenker could have a sense of humour.

Driver has commented about the video on social media and doesn't appear to be concerned about repercussions.

Hopefully so: I thought it was very funny, actually - surely no safety implications, just an opportunity for a moment of train driver jest!  Grin

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.
