In the morning rush hour, 545,000 rail passengers commute into Central London and in just one day around one million descend upon our capital by rail transportation.

With rail becoming a central means of travel, how are the trains maintained to continue to provide commuters with a clean, safe and convenient journey?

In the case of RfL (Rail for London), a contract has been awarded to Bombardier Transportation to design build and maintain for the next 32 years the fleet of trains required for the Crossrail Services, that will commence in earnest in 2018. The trains will be maintained at a new depot to be built at Old Oak Common by Bombardier Transportation^s subcontractor Taylor Woodrow, the civil engineering division of VINCI Construction UK^▸ (United Kingdom).

Also the RfL concept design for the Old Oak Common Depot requires a hybrid renewables energy scheme comprising of multiple energy sources.
