I have been up north, and as we pulled out of Preston heading for Blackpool North, the TM (Train Manager, or Ticket Machine, or Temple Meads (Bristol), depending on context) announced:

"We apologise for the late departure of this service, now running 35 minutes late. This is because of a member of crew (increases volume) NOT READING HIS DIAGRAM PROPERLY!"

I didn't mind, as I walked straight from the (on time) Glasgow Pendolino and onto the train just as the doors began to shut. Had it been on time, I would have had a 25 minute wait. It's not the first time I have been early because the train was late.
