And, while I'm here ... this was today's novelty explanation for disruption:

South West Trains have identified a problem with the information system which matches train crew rosters to the train timetables. This means that some journeys across the South West Trains network may be cancelled, revised or delayed by up to 20 minutes.

This disruption is expected to continue until the end of the day.

This is still ongoing. Sitting at home yesterday seeing consecutive trains to Guildford being cancelled, had to change my plans for the afternoon. I'm curious as to what went wrong.

Service Disruption Sunday 16th April

What's going on?

We have identified a problem with the information system that matches train crew rosters to train timetables. This is affecting some of our train services today. Train services running across the whole of our network may be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes, or be revised at short notice.

We currently expect this situation to continue to affect our network until tomorrow (Monday).

We are very sorry for the disruption this is causing to your journey.

What are we doing about it?

Buses are being used in certain locations to supplement trains, and ensure that all journeys can be completed without difficulty.

To identify your best route and travel options this Easter weekend, we recommend that you check your journey details using the ‘National Rail Journey Planner’ www.nationalrail.co.uk .

Individual train cancellations can be viewed at www.journeycheck.southwesttrains.co.uk

Comment elsewhere suggests that the SWT (South West Trains) software that links crew & stock on bank holidays works on Mondays being the holiday day...Good Friday being the only holiday day that trains run has been forgotten! How true, I don't know...but its possible I guess

The same 'excuse' was being trotted out yesterday, which was supposedly a 'normal' Saturday, but I guess the whole weekend roster is probably affected.

Looking at GWR (Great Western Railway)'s non service to Cheltenham/Chippenham today, it would appear that they are using the same system!  Roll Eyes

Careful! ASLEF» (Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen - about) may be reading, they'll be out on strike in a flash for accusations like that!!!  Grin
