Executive Summary

Network Rail Infrastructure Projects Southern Development (IPSD) team have been commissioned by the Network Rail System Operator (the internal client for this work) to undertake a Pre-GRIP^▸ (Governance for Railway Investment Projects) feasibility study on behalf of Fareham Borough Council. The Council is progressing plans to develop a new community development known as Welborne which will be located to the north of Fareham in Hampshire.

The key aim of the study was to investigate the feasibility of providing a new railway station on the Eastleigh to Fareham line (also known as the Botley line) to allow the Welborne development to be connected to the railway network and to identify potential locations.

Elsewhere it was mentioned about comparative costs of railway and motorway. I wonder how these station costs would compare with a (motorway) service area, or similar.

Interesting document.

I was puzzled by the way the initial table of options seems to have all four locations at the same 'chainage', however this is clearly not the case once you get to the detailed information later on.

From what I know of the Welbourne proposals Option 4 really is the only sensible location.

Interestingly, the present roads nearest to the former Knowle Halt site are not legally open to the public. Knowle Village does not have any through road connections towards the west, as part of its original planning restrictions all access had to be from the A32, the Fareham to Wickham Rd which is the eastern boundary of the Welbourne plan.
