Not a real shock, the content of the dust on the Tube has been known for a long time, human skin being the highest content.

I've often noticed, getting home after a day trip to London with walking and tube, that when I blew my nose the substance added to my handkerchief had a black colouration.  The colouration being who-knows-what bits that I didn't want to think about.

Similarly, metal particles from vehicles braking are one of the major components of urban air pollution above ground.

I'll bet it's nothing like as bad as it was in the days before they banned smoking on the Tube back in the 1980s!
