The Salisbury to Reading service will really start in earnest the following Sunday (26th May).   On the 19th it is a bus between Salisbury and Andover.

These are real genuine improvements to services between London-Salisbury-Bristol-Exeter.

More trains between Bristol-Westbury-Salisbury operated by 159s for those who want to avoid travelling on a Turbo with first class also available.

Interesting to note that the early SWR^» (South Western Railway - about) departure from Yeovil Pen Mill to London Waterloo via Castle Cary is now joined by an early departure from Yeovil Pen Mill to London Waterloo via Yeovil Junction! Prior to December 2019 the latter service started at Yeovil Junction.

The service via Castle Cary departs Yeovil Pen Mill at 0655.
The service via Yeovil Junction departs Yeovil Pen Mill at 0711.

These two services join at Salisbury. From there on they now show on departure boards/screens and RealTime Trains as:

Yeovil Pen Mill & Yeovil Pen Mill to London Waterloo.

Is this unique? Two services, that become one, to the same destination from the same origin, via different routes?

Could be an interesting delay repay if you set off from Pen Mill to Salisbury (or beyond) in one direction and it gets delayed, but the other half is on time.  "Nope - no DR due, as the train was bang on time. It says so on my system."

That also raises a broader routeing guide question. When trains join, one of them is usually (or I suspect always) booked on data systems as terminating (and for splits, mutatis mutandis). But is it still a direct train in the sense that it must be a permitted route? Even if it takes longer that way? Obviously that might (but almost certainly doesn't) apply in this case of the same end point, but could arise from any other join/split.

Update - NRJP recognises both as through trains (no change required), so there should be no problem.
