Some notes I took yesterday listening to Prof Graham Parkhurst of UWE talking on the digital future art it relates to transport and travel.

"Towards seamless journeys in the era of digitally enabled mobility"

Same codes / different manufacturers digital -> seamless integration

Physical mobility - more or less done.
Fixed timetable, leaflets, etc still a necessity
Digital changes nature of travel - why and how we choose; new monitoring proves

20% retail now online. Millennials 50% online; prediction 95% digital transaction.
60% using online shopping in 60-69 and growing

Less people travelling for shopping; things moving not people; doubling light goods vehicles
15% working from home. But "sometimes" much more common.
So peak declines/levels 9-5 and weekend shopping going

Definition of "community". No longer village.
More complex geography of mobility.
Still need to travel for mental health and wellbeing.

Opportunities - for travel information.
Old timetable ... Not everyone can read. Complex footnotes. Digital good potential.
93% reach on mobile phones

Payment online - benefit for operators
POTENTIAL for online tracking of all services - "blockchain"
5G by 2025 for motorways and train lines?

Mobility as a service - monthly area journeys + even some long distance

Potential issue
- risk of digital exclusion.  3% lack in homes. 17% A&B roads lack. Rural much worse.
- trust of information / can be wrong. e.g. change to airport bus
- resilience to failures.  Systems fall over at stress time
