Is it really going to be finished by December, given there are still unrefurbed 150s, and I've yet to see a refurbed 143.

And if it isn't, what happens, given 5 142s are due to head north and presumably have duties to perform with the start of the new timetable so can't be held back? Won't that leave a bit of a shortfall?

143617 due out end of oct,248 and 221 due out later this month aswell.

i think 150's will be done by december 143's doubtful unless they start sending more than 1 to eastleigh.

the timetable will probably be adjusted to accomodate less trains in my opinion and once all sets refreshed there will be more spares available.

even refreshed sets are not complete there are still retro works to be done,3 cars are going in to eastleigh at present for this to be done.

Silly question. 143s are not allowed south of Warminster. How do / would they get to Eastleigh?

The FOC^▸ (Freight Operating Company, or possibly 'free of charge', depending on context) that is responsible for the transit moves has obtained authority from Network Rail for 14x to be run empty stock from Warminster to Eastleigh expressly for these moves.

Network rail wouldn't let the 142s go beyond Warminster towards Salisbury .

And none of the traincrews are trained on them either .

Not the thread I was looking for but useful info.

Apart from the wheel base issue and grinding, there is also the matter of getting zapped by the third rail, which they also get close to doing in places apparently.

There are other threads covering the same argument but in a bit more depth but can't quite find them at the mo.

Traincrew knowledge and the prospect of getting one marooned somewhere. Fratton don't sign any 14x units.

Also something to do with the plate on the front behind the coupler and / or the speedometer cable catching in the third rail. That said 142's do run in and around Merseyrail land.

But carefully segregated from third rail. For example at Ormskirk, the lines from Preston and Liverpool meet end on, but are separated by buffers in the middle of the platform and at Southport, the Wigan line diesels steer well clear of the platforms used by the electric services.

143 refresh progaramme expected to be complete by may09,they are having some major work done on top of what the public will see,lets hope they are a better unit when they are back.617 due back in service start of november so not long to wait to find out.
