Two massive concrete beams are set to be transported out of Cornwall by road on Friday.

The 133-tonne structures have been made by a Cornish firm and will form part of a new railway bridge in Cheshire.

Workers at Cornish Concrete Products, near Bissoe, made the beams, and say they are the heaviest manufactured concrete items to leave Cornwall.

The beams will be attached to a new steel bridge before the whole structure is lifted into place over Christmas.

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

And there I was thinking when I saw the title of this thread that the Cornish had built themselves a Large Hadron Collider or something. Concrete beams! I see now!

Stupid question perhaps, but if they're destined for a railway bridge, wouldn't it have made more sense to trainsport them by rail?
