Did you know that you can post a calendar event from any of the boards in this forum?

If you want to tell us about an event that's taking place in Portsmouth, for example, start at the "Calendar" tab at the top of the forum, find the date you want in the diary and click on the day.   You'll get a pulldown menu within your posting screen which will let you select the appropriate board - in the example, that would be Portsmouth to Cardiff.

There's sometimes a temptation to post up about an event in the "Diary" section, as well as in an individual line board - but please restrain yourself if you're tempted - please don't "double post".   Double posting makes it difficult for others to follow up, and leads to there being two conversations going on at the same time about the same subject - it can be highly confusing, it can lead to good points being missed by some of the potential audience and (judging by some of the reactions I get) it puts some members off contributing at all.

While on the subject of double posting ... there are a few occasions where a subject relates to a number of boards, and is sufficiently "core" to warrant comment / mention on each.  I can think, for example, of the proposed Yeovil to Banbury service - Heart of Wessex?  TransWilts?  The West to Oxford?  Oxfordshire Branches?   And the solution is such case is to post a main article once ... with just a "trailer" for it on the other potential board(s) referring people through to the main discussion.

You can find out more about how this forum works [here] - that will link you to a copy of the forum agreement that you can read before you join, and tell you very much more about how we operate. We are an independent forum, provided and run by customers of Great Western Railway, for customers of Great Western Railway and we welcome railway professionals as members too, in either a personal or official capacity. Views expressed in posts are not necessarily the views of the operators of the forum.

As well as posting messages onto existing threads, and starting new subjects, members can communicate with each other through personal messages if they wish. And once members have made a certain number of posts, they will automatically be admitted to the "frequent posters club", where subjects not-for-public-domain are discussed; anything from the occasional rant to meetups we may be having ...
