Most of the Voyagers I have been on are full and standing from Taunton but on occasions some have been full and standing from Newton Abbot.  Do they ever get this packed further west?

Depends when you are travelling and in which direction. Up morning services and down evening services from Newton Abbot and Taunton respectively i'd expect to stand or sit in an undesireable seat.

only time i have ever been on one that was quiet was on a saturday evening from exeter to bristol and that was 9 cars! the passengers would have fit onto 1
