Author Topic: Trains in reverse formation - why so many of them at the moment?  (Read 3934 times)

Last week, 4/5 of my morning trains were in reverse formation.  3/5 of my return trains were.

I've alsi noticed a growing trend in the last 3-4 months.

Anyone any idea why this is?

I dont much mind but am curious

Its always good fun for Standard class to arrive into London before First Class who must walk.

Actually I dont mind as it gives me access to the rear stairs and then easy access to the bike racks.

(although that will change as my bike got destroyed last week so my new sort of fold up bike will begoing with me again.  In the first class disabled space (assuming no passenger needs to use it of course) or in the old shredder room (if there is still one) if I have an understanding train manager.  Failing that - I WILL book it on two trains a day.)

surely its a bit of a pain to turn a HST (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) at the end of each leg, and its just simpler to go to a siding, and the driver goes to the other end of the train?

A lot of it is to do with the ongoing refurbishment and diversions during engineering work! Hst's can be turned at Laira, Landore and SPM (St Philip's Marsh (Bristol depot)), on the triangles, anywhere else?

Can be done at the London end around Old Oak/Greenford loop. There are however several places on the network that can 'turn' them when they are diverted like when Paddington to Plymouth/Penzance services are via Honiton they reverse at Exeter thus putting them the wrong way around.
