After some delay and budget overrun, Bristol finally has a single destination museum charting this great city's past.

The 'M-Shed' opened today (Fri 17/06/2011) on Bristol's historic dockside. Inside, the museum records the city's archaeological, social, commercial, industrial, scientific, artistic and cultural histories.

Outside, there are large working exhibits such as the steam and electric cranes, a 1930's fire-boat and the dockside railway with it's two preserved 0-6-0 saddle tank locomotives, Portbury and Henbury.

Entry is free to the museum. Some outside attractions are charged for. Further information:

http://mshed.org/

I'm going to pop down there tomorrow to check it out. Never ridden on the short dockside railway. I'll post some photos here.

EDIT: Visited the museum this evening (Sat 18/06/2011). And very good it is too! Sadly the Bristol Harbour Railway isn't running this weekend because the dockside is so busy with visitors to the museum. So I didn't get to have a trip.

I'll post a link to an album of photos once I've collated and edited.

As promised, here's a link to a few photos I took of the exhibits at Bristol's M-Shed.

In my opinion it was not as good as the Bristol Industrial Museum which was proceeded by the new "M Shed".
