Littering the Railways - You cannot win! (rant)

I did to someone who was trying to force two beer cans between the edge of the seat and the carriage wall. They looked very sheepish and prised them out and put them in the bin.

Did you say "Excuse me, there's a litter bin directly behind your seat"?

I'd already had to ask him to move from my reserved seat. I wasn't going to chance my luck again. I would have needed him to take his headphones off too ...

Bristol Temple Meads and Cardiff Central are now the only stations that I know of with no bins.

I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but I think I have seen large wheely bins on the platform at Cardiff Central once or twice. It can be quite hard to find a bin on the railway though.

The suituation on trains is little better than on stations. There are bins but they are hard to find and few in number (normally between seat backs, but not at every back to back seat, as far as I remember, or is that just Arriva Trains Wales 158s?).

There are plenty of bins easily visible on stations except Cardiff Central and Bristol Temple Meads.   There may be one or two others elsewhere.

This week I watched someone screw up some paper wrapping and throw it on the floor in an HST^▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)). The litter bin was directly behind his seat.

A few months ago, the council hung notes on everyone's wheely bins to notify them of some changes to the service. I saw a bloke go out to get his bin in who, on seeing the leaflet, read it and then dropped it in the street. He was HOLDING a bin, for pity's sake!
