A question I have been asked ... any thoughts, anyone?

The train arrived at Melksham just before 8 am on Saturday, 9 April, 1892.
(It^s quite possible the trip may have included an overnight stay in Salisbury.)

This is to do with piecing together historic news articles and events in Melksham for a 'cause celebrate' at about that time; perhaps an old Bradshaw's from around that time would help.   I've also been asked a follow up question - there's an alternative hypothesis that the traveller in question arrived in Melksham in the early evening of that day rather than just prior to 8 a.m. - and what would his timings have been in that case?    Thanks!

I cannot speak for 1892, but in my 1910 Bradshaw (reproduction) there was a 5:55am train from Salisbury to Westbury arr 6:53, then a 6:57 to Trowbridge arr 7:06 then a 7:35 from Trowbridge arr Melksham 7:53.  I cannot find an early train from Semley to get to Salisbury in time for the 5:55.

Hmm .. thanks; I'll pass than on.  D'you reckon it would have been "Change at Salisbury" or "Change at Wilton" for this journey?  A change of station would (I think) have been needed in either, but then perhaps the trains in question would have skipped Wilton?

The Salisbury to Westbury train stopped at Wilton, but it made no difference to the feasibility of the journey because the first up train from Semley did not leave until 6:56.
