PAYG Fare Consultation (London and South East)

Published today: Pay-as-you-go on rail

Consulting on potentially introducing PAYG^▸ fares by various contactless methods ('smart ticketing') in a wider area in London and South East. Main option relating to GWR^▸ services would cover GWML^▸ and branches as far as Reading, plus all the North Downs. Wider option would go as far as Oxford.

Respond by 1 May 2019.

A little bit TfLish? Could be an interesting idea, but you'd need to find a way of giving a clear idea of how much you were paying and showing that you'd paid.

It does seem to be written in parts with a London-centred commuting point of view. For example some of the questions related to having the wider option relate to being comfortable with high-ish total fares, yet this wouldn't be for short journeys within the 'outer circle' eg Radley to Bicester.

Not quite sure how you would fare if you make a break in a journey. Presumably pay more for two "half" journeys.
