Not actually the Flying Spotsman" nor Tornatoes or even the Midland Pullperson. "Near Bath" is correct though, if a trifle generalised; not in BaNES itself though.

Box, Indeed.   I clicked my shutter early - but it looks like Daisy or at least one of her descendants (Megan perhaps) coming out of the tunnel. I did find myself thinking how small the train looks, and musing that there would be room for overhead electrification through there ...



Box was - for a few years - Thomas's home depot



and there's also rumoured to be a strategic reserve of steam engines in there somewhere.   Interesting to note one from a previous generation hiding in one of the gardens

I have always been intrigued as to why the east portal is nowhere near the same size. I guess that is because the railway emerges into a narrow rock cutting and unlikely to be seen by most.

It is early PR▸ (Public Relations).  There was a strong campaign against Box Tunnel due to the perceived danger of its length and gradient.  Brunel built the Western entrance this size because it could be seen from the stage coaches on the Bath / London road where Grahame took the photograph.
