The man behind plans for the development of the old bus station site in Newquay has been in talks with prominent national retailers (link below.)

Richard Berridge, of Aedifico, revealed the site is generating interest from big businesses looking to locate in Newquay. He said:

Quote from: Richard Berridge
"We are talking to several people and we have had interest. I think ultimately I would like to see something like Marks & Spencer or Sainsbury's."

A planning application has been lodged to build a four-storey building containing 28 flats (30% affordable housing) on land at the junction of East Street and Bank Street. The ground floor has been set aside for commercial use by architects Trewin Design Partnership.

Mr Berridge explained he wanted to create a building which was "interesting".

He said:

Quote from: Richard Berridge
"The site has been a real eyesore for the past five years and has blighted the main retail area of Newquay. Since our purchase in October 2007 we have worked with Trewins and Restormel to design a beautiful, very high quality landmark building, but with reference to local idiom, materials and features.

"The retail space will be key to attracting good quality national retailers to the town centre. The footfall in the summer season at this location is quite extraordinary."
