No water stops needed either.

All powered by some form of patent heavy oil engines I am told. Certain foolish persons have suggested that these oil engines will one day replace steam power both on the railways and at sea.
Seems unlikely in view of the costs and complications, these heavy oil engines have many more cylinders than a steamer and run at very high speeds.
An interesting innovation.

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards,luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU▸ (Diesel Multiple Unit) is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

Fast forward a few years when they have managed to perfect electrolysis of water "on the fly" to provide hydrogen fuel for the latest high speed trains..................and they will have to stop every 100 miles for water !!! Plus ca change  Grin Grin ...........
