Where people would not be trusted to keep off the tracks, on indeed platform end slopes were there to let people get out of long trains, we have these pyramid things these days.
In the past, you would have had people sitting reading papers or books, or looking around or talking. But these days they are all staring into a little screen. There ARE still some newspapers for sale, but I do wonder what their sales are like and how much longer they will continue.
I used to get on train at the buffet and buy myself a coffee before I down. These days I'll purchase ahead or bring my own, as I won't know where the catering is on the train or indeed if there is any and only on the longest of journeys will I use a trolley if it comes through - or the "freebies" that are really included in the price on those rare 1st class occasions.
Rusty and dirty trains have given way to far too many with "amateur decoration' ...
Swindon Bus Station may have been a bit of a depressing place but I wonder at all this activity at the "Bus Boulevard" and I really hope it'w worth it. Locally we could do with something as simple as buses that call at the stop and the station and with route maps and timetables there, and perhaps a shelter

WC▸ sign lit if it is vacant.
