oh ok, thankyou for that its been a long time since i saw the inside of a 143 being originally from marple this is a unit that i rarly got to use

actually if they do multiple workings with a class 142 then bang first and second class  Tongue

The 143's were never fitted with tables as it was deemed unsafe, as if someone put a hot drink on one it may spill on their lap! serious!

What's the seat spacing like? My experience of the ones that Northern refurbished is that it's virtually impossible to sit straight in the seat - there's no room for your knees. I end up sitting sideways (occupying both seats of the pair).

No still fitted. One on each 143 unit.

What's the seat spacing like? My experience of the ones that Northern refurbished is that it's virtually impossible to sit straight in the seat - there's no room for your knees. I end up sitting sideways (occupying both seats of the pair).

The seats retain their original spacing that they were prior to refurbishment. The extant seats have been reupholstered and refitted. No change to seating plan.

Apparently this was an issue with the way the DSD (Driver's Safety Device) / Vigilance is configured which is to be the way the 143's are to be fitted up. The Pacers are not currently fitted with vigilance, other that 143617.

The VIG fitted to 143617 is a joke. The way it has been fitted by bolting the pedal assembly on top of the floor plate  means I can no longer get my knees under the desk.

I can only conclude that the aslef delegation who inspected the unit at Eastleigh must all be under 5' 5".

Delays on the refresh due to unfamiliarity and the 'trial and error' phase due to it being the first and so in effect the 'prototype' set.
The 'crashworthyness mods' caried out also caused significant delays.
