Hi All,

For the past several months I've been purchasing my weekly Newton Abbot to London Paddington early morning (0635) railway ticket about 10/11 weeks in advance, as I'm able to get a decent advance price.

Yesterday I attempted to purchase my ticket for 15/12 and found that none of the services before the 0731 service had an advance ticket option.  It seems as though there was also a timetable change as my train is now 5 mins earlier, but arrives at the same time (great!!).

Does anyone know why there are no advance ticket prices for the early morning trains from 14/12 onwards?  I will not be happy if I have to purchase walk up price from now on  Shocked

The retiming of the 0600 Plymouth - London Paddington is certainly a disgrace as it still hits Reading at exactly the same time, which is where the delays occur. FGW▸ (First Great Western) are currently only displaying as being able to book until the 11th December on their website at the moment. Its possible that because of the new timetable fares aren't being released.

To be fair though when the service was first timetabled it was an Adelante.  Maybe they discovered the HST▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) couldn't keep to the timings and so they are giving it more time.

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

Aside from the fact that it can keep to the times if it gets a clear run through Reading!

Thanks for the replies all.  Re the comment about 11th December, I am able to book tickets up until 29th December on the website, and a lot of the services up to that date have advance ticket prices.  I just hope it is a case of some of the advance tickets for certain services not being released/updated yet!

only a limited number of services have been opened for reservations past the 11th Dec, not all trains

I thought the point of Advance tickets was to get bums on seats empty of peak trains.

Surely having Advances on peak trains will just make more overcrowding.
