Don't see why not ... an electric powered train made it to Minehead the weekend before last. The Hastings diesels - as I understand it - have electric traction motors which are powered by onboard diesel generators.

Electric traction everywhere in the west. HSTs▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)), Vomiters, Class 66s, Class 57/3s....

i know im drifting further off topic, but there are a couple of ways of getting electric trains down to penzance drag them... or hydrogen powered.... one pointless one wishfull thinking

NXEA▸ (National Express East Anglia) probably used their HST▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units))'s.
