From Sunday 30th October to Friday 4th November, East Coast will be operating the loaned First Great Western HST▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) on the following diagrams:

Sunday 30th October:

1F21 - 11:19 Kings Cross to Newcastle
1A46 - 18:15 Leeds to Kings Cross

Monday 31st October to Friday 4th November:

1N08 - 08:30 Kings Cross to Newcastle
1Y32 - 12:25 Newcastle to Kings Cross
1D32 - 16:33 Kings Cross to Leeds
1A49 - 19:15 Leeds to Kings Cross

In all seriousness, as the balance of requirements changes I wouldn't see any reason that diesels shouldn't run on electric lines from time to time.  But where it's done regularly, and when there's a serious shortage of carriages and services on certain diesel lines (such as our local one), it's rubbing salt into the wounds to scrap perfectly working old electric trains and then use diesels.

I wonder why the East Coast are using a FGW▸ (First Great Western) HST▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)), either they have a genuine shortage of stock then why only 2 days? or it is to get feed back on the toast rack seating used in FGW HST's from EC passengers but again why just 2 days

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

So if they are able to spare an HST▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) to send to EC, this indicates that they have a bit of slack in their stock usage. How about putting this HST on a Cotswold diagram vice a Turbo when it gets back, and reallocate the released turbo to the overcrowded Thames Valley?

Actually if we had a standard coupling/control wire configuration it would be more sensible to run electric trains with a diesel loco a short distance (say < 20% of the journey) of the wires than running a diesel a 1000 miles a day  under the wires.

Interesting comment adc82104 where is this HST▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) coming from? Be embarrasing if FGW▸ (First Great Western) has to cancel any trains duirng the week due to lack of HSTs!

Few operations notices up for EC staff at Newcastle today regarding the FGW▸ (First Great Western) HST▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)), many variations of spec between the two fleets a couple to mention are the SDO▸ (Selective Door Opening) panels and the lack of wrap around gangway doors on the FGW coaches.
