I seem to recall from WECA» (West of England Combined Authority - about)'s board papers that there was some kind of surveying of Temple Meads planned to see if the ironwork was robust enough to dangle OHLE (Over-Head Line Equipment (electrification via catenary)) from.

Does anyone have any inside knowledge on whether that took place?

I would imagine that it would be make electrification much cheaper if any required brackets could be installed whilst the crash deck above the platforms is in place.

Thanks for posting that update, johnneyw.   Wink

That is indeed a fairly large project of restoration / rebuilding / improvement work.

Out of interest when are the works due to be finished?
The station is so depressing with boards everywhere, it reminds me of New Street

Or Berlin Ostbahnhof, eh?

The wraps continue to come off Bristol Temple Meads canopy restoration.  These two pictures taken this morning.

Does this mean the works have been completed?
I have no idea of the targeted completion date

The place has given me flashbacks of New Street of old, such a dark and gloomy place

Sadly not completed yet but a sure fire sign of the work progressing steadily from one end to the other.

Apologies, Phantom, I've just removed your last message - the image hosting service may have been hacked and was displaying something unsavoury and possibly malicious alongside it.

The new Temple Meads canopy continues to be slowly revealed with even some of the scaffolding being dismantled.  I took those pictures this afternoon.

According to an article in Bristol 24/7, it's been confirmed that the bus stops serving Temple Meads are going to be moved from Station Approach to Friary (parallel to Station Approach but the other side of the old Brunel Shed).

More in the link below.

No indication of customer drop off, nor taxi rank relocation?
