Looks as though Southern have made them available on their TVMs (Ticket Vending Machine) - I guess within the London zone area only?

It happened a while ago, and I think they'll sell them in both directions as well, ie from stations well outside the zonal area.

They are basically taking passengers on trust to already have the ticket they are 'extending', because in theory a BZ fare is of no value without the ticket or season it is extending.

As Southern already sold tickets from other origins on TVMs (Ticket Vending Machine) it isn't much of a further step. People are already currently trusted not to buy two short tickets rather than one for the full length of their journey so I guess they can also be trusted to only buy Boundary Zone tickets correctly.
