Hi, just another introduction as a newbie on the site.  I started in the railway industry (90s) as an apprentice engineer, working on Class 323 EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) and Glasgow Subway Trailer Cars before the company encountered some "difficult trading conditions"....  I then had many fun years doing Engineering/Operations in the Army, before deciding to get out and get a proper job (still in Engineering), which now sees me currently commuting from Chris F-N's favourite station to London every day.  Hopefully I can add some value to this excellent site, and be of use to the wider Great Western community.  I've enjoyed reading the posts so far, and widely support the expansion of the railway, especially around the Bristol area (which badly needs it).

Welcome to the Coffee Shop forum, wabbit - and welcome to Nailsea!  Smiley

(I've split your post off into this new topic, rather than adding to an existing thread.)

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
