First bus gets stuck on central reservation of A4 at Brislington

The number 38 got stuck in Bath Road. Pictures sent in by Richard Burton

A bus managed to get stuck on the central reservation of a busy Bristol road this afternoon, causing it to be closed in the lead up to rush hour.

A park and ride bus broke down on the A4 in Brislington just after 4pm, partially blocking the road.

Shortly afterwards a First bus tried to go around the broken down bus, but became lodged on a lane divider near Grove Park. The road was then closed for around 30 minutes.

First said on Twitter: ^Bristol: Bath Road closed outbound by Tramway Centre, Brislington: Bath services diverted via Sandy Park Road & Wick Road. Long delays SDM^

Police have said the broken down bus has been removed, but the number 38 is in the process of being recovered. A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: ^A bus has got stuck on a central reservation on the A4. It is currently being recovered.^

Richard Burton, who lives close to where the incident happened, said a number of buses became stuck behind the broken down vehicle. He said: ^The bus driver thought it a good idea to go round a broken down bus in front, over the lane divider. There were five buses all in a row causing mayhem out of Bristol.^

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
