Something that stood out....extra service on Henley Branch and late night train to Twyford.

Twy to HOT@ 2150 / 2228 / 2306 / 2359

Pad to Twy @ 2318 arrival 2355 (Calls at Slough & Maidenhead)

Good news there then and it joins the Maidenhead to Marlow line in having a nice late train.  The 23:18 PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains)-OXF» (Oxford - next trains) which is making the call is a 6-car Turbo (and will presumably remain so) and has the capacity for extra passengers, even on a Friday night.  I must say that the later evening service has really improved massively over the last few years with many trains strengthened length wise and the odd extra call at Maidenhead, and now Twyford, helping passengers for those stations and their branch connections home without having to resort to the stopping trains.

The obvious glaring omission from the evening service is now the last train from Slough to Windsor which, at 23:20, is far too early.  A 23:50 or thereabouts (which also connects out of the 23:18 from Paddington) is desirable.

A 23:18 arriving at 23:55 (or up to 5 minutes earlier if the connection at Slough was tighter) would be far more useful than that then, not to mention the connections from places like Ealing, Hayes and Slough itself that the Waterloo service doesn't serve.  Pretty much every time I've been on the 23:18 from Paddington I see an optimistic passenger try to board the 23:36 arrival from Windsor arriving in the bay which then goes ECS (Empty Coaching Stock) to Reading Depot (which it's not booked to do until 00:12 anyway, though it often runs early, so another trip could be slotted in without much alteration).

A connection off of the 00:22 ex Paddington on a Friday night would also be useful I feel, but baby steps.  Wink

...........I'll have you know I had some cracking nights out in the Feathers (latterly the Town House) and other Ealing pubs during my Windsor days!!!

Ealing used to be an excellent night out............IRA spoilt the Feathers somewhat though.

I notice the "last" train to Reading from Paddington at 0334 arrives at 0430. Avantix (Ticket Issuing System used on board trains) mentions 0429 being the cut-off point for Off Peak Day Returns from the previous day, so an Anytime ticket would be required to use this service?

Ealing is indeed still a pretty vibrant place to go out in the evening - I actually prefer it to Windsor (and I've been out in both several times).  Even if it was just a trickle from all three (Hayes has the potential Heathrow Connect factor as well of course) and a larger contingent from Paddington. I bet you'd get as many passengers on a 23:50 from Slough to Windsor as you will on the most welcome new late train from Twyford to Henley and the existing late service from Maidenhead to Marlow.

I'd guess it could be excessed on board or an Anytime single from Twyford issued. I suppose at that time, no one is going to be that bothered anyway!

No guard for a start, extremely unlikely that the gatelines would be manned at that time, and I seriously doubt you'd have RPIs (Revenue Protection Inspector, or Retail Price Index, depending on context) about at that time of the morning.

Although I suspect if there were revenue blocks targeting that service they'd catch more than a few people effing it.

There is a 23:50 Sat Only, which is useful, just needs to run mon-fri as well!!

Not terminuses, but St Pancras and Blackfriars have at least an hourly Thameslink service through the night Bedford <-> Three Bridges.
